What are the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x?
Audio-Technica ATH-M50X is a follow-up to the ATH-M50, a pair of headphones designed for those who have proven to be so popular with the general public that it seems a bit friendly and not foolproof.
This new pair is not more expensive than the original, online. Selling for $ 125 and gives you interchangeable cables and the same great sound that made the original set so popular. If you go out for portable headphones and don’t mind them getting a bit bigger, you’ll feel sorry for not considering the Audio-Technica AHT-M50x.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x – Design and Comfort
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50X is a large over-ear headphones, much larger than the style-driven on-headphones you can usually see at this price. Compared to cheap Beats Solo 2 competing with Beats Studio, their prices are much better
It is refreshing to see a pair of high quality portable headphones designed for the general public for less than $ 5. Some of you may think that spending more than $ 5 on headphones is crazy, but you have to trust us: you’re getting a pretty good deal here.
Although the audio roots of the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x are still pretty clear. While many style headphones try to keep expensive materials such as aluminum and leather at your fingertips, they are essentially – and shamefully – plastic.
The ear cups have a small ring of metal and the headband is reinforced with a steel band. But the look is more of a “I’m here, get in touch with it” look rather than a disappointment.
When it comes to this style, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X look is pretty cool. As you get older, the ear follicles are not a few miles away from your head and neither are the headbands (though they are sweet). Audio-Technica has made no major changes to the look to create a more comprehensive version of the original M50.
One of the major differences is that the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X, like most new full-size headphones, has a removable cable even though the socket is a standard 2.5mm, there is a pull-to-lock mechanism that means you can simply 2.5mm cable may not be able to be used.
However, you don’t really need to because you only get three generous boxes in the box. A 1.2m cable for portable use and at home, in the studio, there are two tall (coiled, straight) uses in the DJ booth: whatever your bag is. There is no iOS remote, but the cable is much thicker than the type it usually has.
We find these headphones to be extremely versatile as well as having both carry and cabling for home use as well as being comfortable for both conditions.
For example, using a larger ear pad than this, Sennheiser Momentum gives plenty of room for your ear, and the headband successfully releases pressure on your head. The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x has a medium grip on your head that we think most people won’t find a problem with for the wide earpad.
Like other headphones hinted at by the DJ style, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X also folds for extra carrying capacity. Unless you need headphones like the one that are not as small or slot-like as the iPhone 5s, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x is great.
The hardware is just a practical one – and somewhat surprising. Noise isolation is OK, where these national large over-ear headphones often excel in this field. We’re not entirely sure why – it simply can’t withstand the relatively thin layer of plastic in your ear and the outside world and the back of your ear cup to
This is frustrating, but it is truly one of the few elements we can tweet if we can.
Audio-Technica ATH-M50x – Sound Quality
The sound of the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X makes us think that will appeal to a wider audience. And this is not an insult.
They provide the base strength, low-end meatiness that virtually all headphones seem to be interested in these days, but it matches the control, amplitude and isolation that prevent the sound from being cluttered.
At the price, the offer is very low on closed-back headphones here, with the width of the sound offered. The actual width of the soundstage is naturally enhanced by an open-back pair – by something like the Sennheiser HD 598 – but compared to the likes, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X performs extremely well.
Add a detailed-but-smooth treble to it, and you have headphones that sound lively and exciting, while having enough high-end flavor to satisfy them with prudent ears. This is a winning combo that is more than capable of currently receiving the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x mainstream recognition.
We still think they are better to listen to for enjoyment than the more professional applications that were often associated with the original ATH-M50. This thing is here – there are more buses going on here than strictly precision. We’ve found that this really only removes the quick experience with the speaking staff (audiobooks, anyone?)
There is undoubtedly some resonance that you get in a maid’s headphone with a single voice, though the scale and the sense of isolation here with the music is enough to ensure that the emphasis of the bus does not outweigh anything else.
And, boy, does it make listening to music fun. In addition to bringing extra power, the bus depth is also great. This is especially effective for gaming and film, where deep shaft adds extra effects to the action scene.
Should I buy the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x?
Over the past few years we have reviewed a lot of style headphones. Something good, not so good in abundance. The Audio-Technica ATH-M50X shows that you usually get plenty of space for your duck from something a little more traditional.
Most of their style headphones have a bass screw, but execute this kind of sound with a panache that is rare enough to continue at $ 250 USD, leaving you the dollar you have to pay for this, £ 120.
Audio-Technica Wipe the floor with most rivals at the ATH-M50X Price and offer a great alternative to headphones that are twice as expensive as Sennheimer’s Momentum.
